An Encouraging Start!

Early reviews are in for Secrets & Lies, the first book in the Riley Russell Mystery Series! Granted, it’s early, but as of this writing, every review thus far has been five stars. Of course, the reality is that this cannot last forever, but what an undeniably encouraging start! I’m beyond grateful that I seem to have found an appreciative audience for my work and that my early readers are helping to spread the word about my writing through glowing reviews. Writers: Full of Self-Doubt

When a writer begins a book, she never knows where it will lead. Do I know what I’m doing? Will I finish it? Will it be any good? Will anybody read it? I’m told that even established, well-loved, and accomplished authors with (literally) shelves full of awards ask themselves these questions Every. Single. Time. they sit down to write. So I expected that; I worked through it. I workshopped this novel in several writers’ groups, attended writing conferences and online classes, and sought feedback from first readers and, later, beta readers and editors, learning as I went. There were definitely times I thought I’d never finish! Only now am I actually beginning to appreciate how necessary it was to take as much time as I needed to produce this, my first full-length work of fiction. It was well worth it; it’s a book I’m very proud to have out in the world.
